T.F. GREEN WELCOMES AIR CANADA

Warwick, RI – The Rhode Island Airport Corporation announced today Air Canada will begin seasonal flight service at T.F. Green Airport from May 17th through October 8, 2018. The non-stop flights will operate daily to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). This is the 2nd international airline added to T.F. Green Airport this year and the 5th airline overall.

Toronto Pearson is Canada’s largest and busiest airport, in Canada’s largest and busiest city. The airport is the hub for approximately 456,000 flights a year and over 44 million passengers annually.

“We are excited Air Canada has agreed to begin flight operations at T.F. Green. Toronto is the hub for Canadian travel to America and we believe these routes will benefit both Rhode Island’s economy and travelers,” said Iftikhar Ahmad, president and CEO of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation.

“We are very pleased to announce the start of the first Canadian transborder and only non-stop flights from Providence to Toronto, ON for next summer. We look forward to welcoming onboard customers traveling between Rhode Island and the Toronto area for both business and leisure.  We’re also excited to introduce local area customers connecting onward at our Toronto international hub to our extensive global network to Asia, Europe and across Canada on North America’s Best Airline as rated by Skytrax,” said Benjamin Smith, President – Passenger Airlines at Air Canada.

Raimondo said. “This announcement marks our second international airline announced this year, and our 17th nonstop route added this year—meaning that in 2017 alone, we’ve doubled the number of routes serving T.F. Green. Rhode Island is on a roll, and we are excited to partner with Air Canada as we boost our connectivity and economic activity.”

“Air Canada is one of the largest airlines in the world and Toronto International Airport is one of the busiest, their connectivity to Rhode Island will spur additional economic development,” said Jonathan N. Savage, chair of RIAC’s board of directors.

The new non-stop route to Toronto will be the 17th nonstop route added in the past 10 months, bringing the total to 34 – the most non-stop routes operating out of T.F. Green since 2002.
