Today, TACV – Cabo Verde Airlines (TACV), began service from its new North American base – T.F. Green Airport (PVD) in Rhode Island. TACV is the official airline of Cabo Verde and offers twice weekly flights on Tuesdays and Thursday aboard 757 (210 seat) aircraft to the city of Praia on the island of Santiago.  Connecting service is also available to the Cape Verdean islands of Fogo, Sao Vincente, Sal and Boa Vista.

The move was announced back in January and since that time bookings from the Providence airport have been strong and further strengthen historic cultural ties as well as building upon tourism to Cabo Verde islands.

“Today we welcome TACV – Cabo Verde Airlines to the state, and we celebrate the start of year-round scheduled international service at Green Airport,” said Kelly Fredericks, President & CEO of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation.  “There is a dynamic Cape Verdean community in Rhode Island and surrounding Massachusetts and Connecticut that will find Green Airport to be easy to navigate and parking to be affordable and convenient.  For those traveling from throughout the United States to Cabo Verde, we offer seamless travel connections from top US destinations including Charlotte and Orlando.”

Green Airport is conveniently located off Interstate 95 in Rhode Island.  The airport, known for its ease of access, is connected to the MBTA offering commuter rail service from the Boston metropolitan area via the Providence-Stoughton line.  Peter Pan Bus service is also available, as well as intercity bus service with Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA).  A consolidated rental car facility is located on airport property.

TACV – Cabo Verde Airlines had previously served the Cape Verdean community with flights out of Boston Logan Airport. The Cape Verdean community has a strong presence throughout New England and in some areas communities are actually closer in proximity to Green Airport.  The service has traditionally been geared towards linking family and friends; however, there is a new emphasis on growing it as a tourist destination by promoting the islands’ beauty, climate, hiking, surfing and other water sports.  In the coming months, the airline hopes to add to its frequency and service offerings.
