Coming on the heels of Travel + Leisure’s announcement that its readership voted T.F. Green (PVD) as one of the country’s best airports, airlines have added capacity on some popular routes.

In advance of the busy holiday travel period, Delta Airlines recently upgraded one of its three daily departures to mainline jet service on a 142-seat MD88, departing at 1:10 p.m. to Atlanta. This is a welcome addition for many business passengers. There are more available seats to Detroit due to the employment of larger jets on some of its four existing flights and the addition of a 5th daily departure on a 76-seat CRJ-900, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. In total, the newly merged Delta/Northwest has added 172 seats to and from Green Airport, growing from 2 to 4 mainline sized jets and from 8 to 9 departures.
US Airways has also increased its daily departures to LaGuardia from 4 to 6, providing more available seats into the New York City area with connectivity to domestic and international destinations.

Southwest Airlines recently announced an increase in seasonal service to Florida, reflecting a greater demand to those markets in the spring. Beginning in mid-March there will be 3 Saturday departures to Fort Lauderdale versus 2 on weekdays; 7 Saturday flights to Orlando versus 5 on weekdays, and 4 Saturday flights to Tampa up from 3 on weekdays.

These flights are all currently available for purchase.

“We are pleased our airlines continue to add more jet service and additional seats on flights to some of our popular destinations,” said Kevin A. Dillon, President & CEO, Rhode Island Airport Corporation. “This is an affirmation of our strong catchment area and demand. We expect it will continue as the economy rebounds. The completion of the Intermodal facility and addition of commuter rail service will also help in our efforts to attract more service.” Dillon continued, “It is newsworthy that Green Airport was recently recognized by Travel + Leisure’s readership as a top airport in the country, citing efficiency and functionality, which further builds on our reputation for ease of access and enhanced curb to gate experience.”

The airport is also upgrading its social media offerings. Travelers are encouraged to become a fan of “TF Green Airport (PVD)” on the popular site, Facebook. Receive up-to-date travel information and helpful travel tips, learn about promotions, sign up to win a week of free on-airport parking through the month of November.

The airport’s Web site www.pvdairport.com has been given a new look and offers some improved features. Passengers clicking on “Travel Information” will be able to access the PDF flight guide and a new booking tool — all in an effort to further serve our customers.
