Full scale airport exercise conducted every three years
Warwick, RI – September 10, 2022 – The Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC) and the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency (RIEMA) today were joined by other state and federal agencies to conduct a full-scale emergency exercise designed to test the capabilities of airport and community emergency response staff in the event of an aviation incident at Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD.) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations require CFR Part 139 certificated airports to conduct a full-scale exercise every three years to rehearse with all the entities who would be involved in an actual emergency.
In addition to first responders and support teams from RIAC and RIEMA, additional participating organizations included: American Red Cross, Rhode Island Region; JetBlue Care Team and additional airline/airport volunteers; Rhode Island State agencies including the Department of Health; Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities & Hospitals; Office of the Medical Examiner; Critical Incident Stress Management Team; Hospital Association; state and local fire and rescue, and federal responders including U. S. Customs and Border Protection, Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the National Transportation Safety Board. In all more than 300 emergency responders, staff, and volunteers participated in Saturday’s emergency exercises.
About the Rhode Island Airport Corporation: The Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC) was formed on December 9, 1992 as a semi-autonomous subsidiary of the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation to operate and maintain the state’s airport system. The powers of the corporation are vested in its seven-member board of directors, all of whom are appointed by the governor.
